A Boxa Greens is filled with the freshest, quality, seasonal fruit and veg. We are part of a wholesale agent in Flemington Markets (A wholesale agent is responsible managing, selling and distributing fruit and veg on behalf of the farmers).
Selecting great tasting fruit and veg isn’t just based on picking what looks good, there’s an art to it. There are different varieties to choose from, knowing what region it’s travelling from and where it is in the season (beginning or end), and many more important factors. We scan the markets for what eats well, tastes amazing and is value for money. Candid relationships with our growers and farmers keeps us well informed in what to buy and when.

We are avid home cooks and know what it’s like to want a variety of fresh produce every week. To keep it interesting, we mix up the inclusions in our boxas and offer different seasonal options.

Running a busy household filled with boys, we are familiar with ever changing weekly schedules. This is why our swap system is great. If you didn’t get through carrots that week, swap them out! What to do when the household changes their love of something? For a few weeks, grapes are a big hit, then suddenly, no one wants grapes. Can you relate? Our boxas are flexible enough to add on or swap out items to suit your family’s needs.

In addition to our fresh fruit and veg box service, we also supply Fruit Gift Boxes and Fruit Hamper delivery. Suitable for corporate gifts, birthdays, thank you gifts, or as a kind gesture, our hampers and gift boxes include the freshest quality seasonal fruit and bespoke artisan products. For more details, see the various gift options we supply.

We all have different tastes, favourite foods and cooking styles. ‘Make Your Own Boxa’* gives you the flexibility to add on the fruit and veg to suit the way you cook and eat.  Select the items and fruit and veg packs from the extras produce list.

*minimum order of $55 to make your own boxa. Add eggs and ‘Bundles’, once you have met this minimum.  Berry Bundles, Flavour Booster Bundle and Lunch Box Bundle.

Aussies are tossers! Food waste accounts for an average of $3000/house hold per year (approximately 1.5kg/week) according to @ozharvest and @planetark articles 2023.
.
Leftovers, along with bread, fresh fruit & veg, meats and canned goods are some of the biggest contributors to food waste each year. Approximately 2.46 million tonnes of food waste is dumped in Australia based on statistics from Accumulate Australia Oct 2023.
That’s 300kg per person per year. 🫣
.
According to Food Bank Australia this contributes to 10% of Green house emissions per year. More than 70% of food we are dumping is still edible.
.
Learning a bit about food safety prep will SAVE you money.. here’s a few tips
- Reheat at a minimum of 60 degrees Celsius
- Cover food when reheating in the microwave to retain moisture and make sure it reheats all the way through
- Only reheat as much as you need.

Tips to reduce food waste & use up left overs (leftovers lover here!)
.
- Plan ahead & don’t over buy
- Use up what’s in your cupboards and fridge first
- Plan your meals and the amount you are cooking (will you be home to eat the leftovers?)
- Make a list before you buy
.
Freezer friendly
- Use the freezer to store any left overs or freeze fruit before it goes bad for smoothies
- Batch cook and freeze
- Label items with dates and use them in the correct order
.
Get creative
- Look up recipes or ways to use up items you have in the fridge (Pinterest is great for inspo). Use left over protein to make a pie or add to stir fried veggies.
- Add softish veggies to a soup or make a broth
- Make a frittata or omelette with left over veg or add them to a tray and bake
.

SAVE this recipe for later.
Potatoes are a good idea any time of the year! I made a homemade tomato paste cubes earlier this year using the skins for our tomato sauce day! These have come in handy for this dish that needs a rich paste. You can also add a thick tomato sauce, to add some flavour to the potatoes.
.
You can use store bought tomato paste OR if you are keen to make your own thick sauce, follow this. Heat a pan with olive oil and add a crush a clove of garlic. Add a tin of crushed tomatoes and season well with salt. Fill half the tin with water and add to the pan. Bring to the boil, then lower the heat and cook for 20 minutes or until the sauce thickens (add a few fresh basil leaves for taste)

Remember to generously salt the water when boiling the potatoes, and sprinkle them with salt after you squash them (bland potatoes are a big no no)
.
After adding the sauce on top of the squashed potatoes, sprinkle with dried oregano and mozzarella cheese. Bake at 180 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until the cheese is melts and the potatoes are golden.
.
Serve with fresh chopped parsley.
.
Potatoes are a staple item in our weekly fruit and veg Boxas.

WHAT?! Are you storing these items wrong? See below ⬇️
.
🧅Onions need to be stored at room temp away from direct light (to avoid them going bitter). Avoid storing them with potatoes. Their high levels of moisture cause onions to liquify and leak. Onions can be stored with garlic.
.
🥔 Store potatoes in a cool dark space that doesn’t get warm. Ideally the pantry (not near the fridge, oven or under the sink). The washed variety we supply through Boxa Greens can be stored in the fridge. Onions & potatoes are not friends! Keep onions AWAY from potatoes because the ethylene gases they release, cause them to ripen and sprout much quicker.
.
🍎 On the subject of gases, apples emit large amounts of ethylene gases (similar to bananas). These should be stored seperately in their own fruit bowl on the bench away from other fruits, so all the fruits don’t ripen or go off too quickly. For a crisper apple, store them separately in the fridge.
.
🍅 Tomatoes are best stored and served at room temperature for the best taste. Storing them in the fridge for more then a few days will diminish the flavour. Cut tomatoes should be stored in an air tight container, so they don’t take on any off flavours.
.
Learning to store your produce correctly means they’ll taste better, last longer, which will save you money & time. Less waste.
